Letter to Santa 給圣誕老人的信
Mom: How was school today?
媽媽：今天在學(xué)校怎么樣？
Child: School was great.
寶寶：挺好的。
My friend Luke told me that he wrote a letter to Santa Claus this weekend.
我的朋友盧克跟我說，周末他給圣誕老人寫信了。
美式英語中，圣誕老人叫Santa Claus，簡稱Santa；英式英語中，圣誕老人叫Father Christmas 。
Can I do that?
我能寫嗎？
Mom: Of course you can.
媽媽：當(dāng)然可以。
I picked up some new stationery today.
我今天買了一些新的信紙。
(1) Pick up字面意思是取，但這里指的是去商店買。(2) Stationery既是高質(zhì)量文具的統(tǒng)稱，也可以指精美的信紙。
We can use that.
咱們可以用它。
This paper has snowflakes on it,
這張上面有雪花，

and this paper has reindeer on it.
然后這張上面有馴鹿。

Which one would you like?
你想要哪個？
Child: I think Santa would like the reindeer.
寶寶：我覺得圣誕老人應(yīng)該會喜歡馴鹿。
Mom: Okay, here you go.
媽媽：好的，給你。
Now, what do you want to say in your letter?
那你想在信里說點(diǎn)兒什么？
Child: I want a new bike.
寶寶：我想要一輛新的自行車。
Mom: Well, we should probably start the letter with a salutation, like "Dear Santa".
媽媽：嗯，我們寫信應(yīng)該從稱呼開始，比如“親愛的圣誕老人” 。

Child: Okay. What else do I write?
寶寶：好的。我還寫點(diǎn)什么呢？
Mom: Maybe tell Santa a little bit about you.

What hobbies do you have?

Why do you want a new bike?

Child: I can do that.

Mom: Good.

Envelope的en既可以發(fā) [en] 的音，也可以發(fā) [ɑ:n]的音。

Child: Yuck. That doesn't taste good.

Mom: Now, write Santa's address on the front of the envelope in the middle.
媽媽：現(xiàn)在，在信封正面的正中間寫圣誕老人的地址。

Child: Here?
寶寶：這里嗎？
Mom: Yep. And add a stamp to the upper right-hand corner.
媽媽：嗯。然后右上角貼一個郵票。
Upper right-hand corner = top right-hand corner，兩種說法都很常用，也可以去掉hand 。

Child: Okay, now what?
寶寶：好的，現(xiàn)在呢？
Mom: Now we put the envelope in the mailbox
媽媽：現(xiàn)在咱們把信封放到信箱里，

and raise the red flag.
然后舉起紅色的旗子。
在美國，人們把家門口信箱上的小紅旗豎起來，就說明里面有信需要郵遞員取走。

好了！
Child: How long do I have to wait for my bike?
寶寶：我要等多久才能收到我的自行車呢？
Mom: Santa makes his deliveries every year on Christmas Eve,
媽媽：圣誕老人每年都在平安夜送東西，

which is December 24th.
也就是12月24號。
讀24th的時候前面不用加the 。
Child: Is that soon?
寶寶：很快嗎？
Mom: It's very soon.
媽媽：很快。
But Santa only goes to the houses of good boys and girls.
但是圣誕老人只去乖寶寶的家里。
Have you been a good boy this year?
你今年乖嗎？
Child: I sure hope so.
寶寶：我當(dāng)然希望是這樣了。
